Skype offers a plan to call any number in the U.S., I purchase the plan for 3 months at a time for about $7-8 but if you pay month by month it's $3 a month. I don't get any phone number with it, so you'd have to check out the Skype website to see about that (they do offer a service for it). I only use it to place outgoing calls w/blocked Caller ID.
I think you can only sign up for this plan if you register from the U.S. But I bet they would offer other services for residents of other countries. Oh, and skype has an iOS app as well you can use to place calls. I use it with my ipad and mac and it works great.
I am putting this question here since I only have this problem on my iMac 24. I am trying for the life of me to install this MagicJack Voip device. When I plug it in and double click on the icon I get this message: 'Cannot install magicJack Software. Install process already in progress.' Of course I spent an hour or so talking to magicjack customer service with no luck and even called apple.
When I go into the autocommand folder and run it this way I get the following expanded message: -imac: Home$ /Volumes/magicJack/Start magicJack.app/Contents/MacOS/autorun; exit; autorun has been started mkdir: /Users/Home/.magicJack: Permission denied autorun exit code=12 exitcodeInstanceAlreadyExist logout Process completed I did the repair permissions thing, even put my Snow Leopard CD and reinstalled the OS. Nothing at all works. I know they have a update available but I cannot get to the first step to began.
Magicjack Application For Mac. 15 Feb 2010 Update (September 2011): MagicJack released an iPhone App now. Box, magicJack, Ovolab Phlink, & Parliant PhoneValet A powerful instant text messaging application, iChat comes with Mac OS X and is loaded with great 25 May 2012 I just got.
Now heres a catch 51, on my macbook pro 13 it works perfectly fine???? I had this same error 'cannot install magicjack software process already in progress' Searched the web, finally went to Clicked the Customer Care / Live Agent ( at the bottom of the page ) When you get to that page you can DL the software ( windows only ) or add services. Scanned the results, nope none helping me. Scroll down you'll see a yellow emoticon and an orange LIVE HELP button Click that. Entered your problem in the search field.
You'll get a live agent. Ok this is what i had to do upon contacting the live agent. 1-open disc utility 2-choose the MagicJackMedia drive in the list on the left side of Disc Utility. Mine said TigerJet Hard Disc they insisted it didn't but that's the one they want. The main drive icon with the 'PHONE' sub folder / drive. 3-CLICK Partition 4-under Volume Scheme drop down choose 'Current' 5-Create a partition named 'PHONE' all CAPS.
6-choose Mac os extended/journaling enabled 7-CLICK Apply. This ERASES your CONTACT file. A)the contact file is located in the 'PHONE/magicjack' folder / drive, you can 'OPTION DRAG' it to the desktop to restore your contact list after finishing the partition.
THIS is something magicjack DID NOT tell me. Thankfully i just did it quickly before creating the partition. This creates a NEW EMPTY 'PHONE' partition. 8-Download and Re-Install the MagicJack OSX Software ( eh no download link. Luckily i found the DL link in my history and i am providing it for your personal using pleasure ) ?.
NOTE the software is in BETA testing, check the date of this post and if it's been a while, you may want to get the newest dl link directly from magicjack. Download the DMG and click install You'll get a popup window asking for your a- phone number b- email address used when you signed up c- password you provided when signing up.
if you don't have those eh. You'll have to go BACK to live support hehe. at this point everything should be working again. You don't have a CONTACT LIST anymore. This fix is simple ( if you read the above warning ) 1-Unmount both the MagicJackMedia / TigerJet Hard Disc AND the PHONE disc.
i'm not certain this was necessary. This is how i did it. 2- Drag the copy of your AddressBook.xml to the PHONE/magicjack folder. Restart magicjack. Your contact list is back.
Hope this helps. LoVe My MaC BuDDiES and LOVE MY MAC!! Check out my google profile to contact me to say thanks or to see what i'm all about. I'm going to make a guess here that you transferred your user profile over from the MacBook Pro that the MagicJack works on. If this is the case, then I have a solution as I just went through the same exact problem and none of the solutions on this page worked. It turns out that there was a permissions problem that was preventing the MagicJack from downloading and installing it's software.
Try this: 1) Open a finder window and click on 'Macintosh HD'. 2) Open the 'Users' folder.
3) Right click (or control+click) on the current user profile (the one with the house next to it). 4) Select 'Get Info' 5) Click on the lock icon in the lower right hand corner of the window to allow changes. Your user password will be required. 6) Click on the '+' icon at the bottom left and then select the current user name from the list in the window that pops up. 7) Click 'Select' 8) This should add the current user profile to the permissions list with a '(Me)' after it.
9) Click on the privilege level next to the (Me) user and select 'Read & Write' 10) With the (Me) profile highlighted, click on the little gear at the bottom of the window and select 'Make 'Your username(Me)' the Owner'. 11) Click any other profiles in the list that display only one silhouette and remove them by clicking the '-' in the lower left corner of the window. 12) Click on the gear again and select 'Apply to enclosed items.' 13) Click on the lock to prevent further inadvertent changes. 14) Close the user info window and try the MagicJack again. That's my best suggestion based on your problem description. Apple Footer.
